Introducing "homeland"

​"Our connection with our country and its people is real"

​As the humidity builds, I can feel the sun on my skin. Standing on the airport apron, waiting for clients to arrive, a gusts of wind blows over a cloud of red dust from the nearby bauxite mine. The dust has slightly tinged my white shirt, and in that moment, I realise I am home.

The township of Nhulunbuy was established in the late 1960s, but the area has been home to the Yolngu Aboriginal people for at least 40,000 years.

They say home is where the heart is, and this is surely true. Many moons ago, Matthew invited me to spend my 25th birthday in Nhulunbuy. It was an experience that I would never be able to explain. My connection to this part of the world was immediate, and it was deep. And with every little bit of annual leave I could get from my Brisbane city job I explored more of Arnhemland, falling more in love with the country (and with Matthew).

I finally made a permanent move to Arnhemland, and through a series of events, Matthew and I created Black Diamond Aviation. Operating since 2011, we have had thousands of people from all over the globe board our aircraft. ​

We pride ourselves in providing a vital transportation service across the Northern Territory, and into the other states of Australia. Our capacity allows us to accommodate new and existing clients for all ad-hoc, last minute, regular (ongoing) and advanced-planned charter bookings. 

The majority of our work ensures the remotest communities of Arnhem Land is connected with each other, and with the outside world. Our close business-relationship with the people of the Top End has over time become less "business" and more "family". We have become an integral part of these communities and how things "work out here", and our connection with them is real.

Australia is our home, and we are excited to share with you our stories of the Top End as we continue our journey in Arnhemland through our very own blog - Homeland!
